The cost of not seeing a chiropractor

Have you been suffering with chronic back, neck, shoulder or other pain. A common cause in 2021 of many of these types of aches and pains is posture and working stationary at computer screens for several hours per day.

It’s easy to try and pass off such symptoms, and get by. We live busy and sometimes expensive lives and many of us will try the simplest or cheapest option first if we can. Perhaps we might think we can use at home exercises to help reduce discomfort, or hit the gym. But when you’ve had pain or discomfort for a prolonged period of time, sometimes you simply can’t get rid of the problem on your own.

If you’ve got a misalignment in your body, exercising and making changes in your life won’t necessarily fix it for you. You need to get an adjustment from a chiropractor or osteopath.

You might even try buying painkillers, and other supportive equipment which never eliminates the problem. Such as a new office chair, furniture etc..

Is the cost really worth it? Is it fixing the problem? If not perhaps an adjustment is in order.

The American Chiropractic Association cites research which suggests:

“Worldwide, back pain is the single leading cause of disability, preventing many people from engaging in work as well as other everyday activities.”

and “Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work.”

“Low-back pain costs Americans at least $50 billion in health care costs each year -add in lost wages and decreased productivity and that figure easily rises to more than $100 billion.”

That’s just one example of course. It’s the tip of the iceberg but there are many more areas of the body that can become misaligned through repetitive work, stress, sitting and moving incorrectly, the wrong types of shoes, twisting and moving heavy objects, incorrect computer screen height, constantly bending down at a smartphone etc..

This can all effect the pelvis, feet, neck, and so on.

Waterford, WI chiropractor Dr Allexi says she has seen a lot of clients who delay visiting a chiropractor for many reasons: “Cost is often a primary factor, and not being sure about whether seeing a chiropractor is necessary or not. Clients who delay treatment are often realize when they come and see me they could have benefited from coming sooner.”

A study in early 2020 looking at the period from 2019-2020 found that 22% of Americans (1 in 4) said they avoided some sort of medical care due to the cost.

This trend has been steadily increasing for a number of years, as found in another study by Gallup.

Chiropractic work is generally considered very safe, especially when performed by a trained and licensed chiropractor, such as Tulsa Spine and Rehab for example. If you have not visited a chiropractor before then you would be in safe hands, assuming you choose someone reputable. There are many more benefits too to chiropractic adjustment beyond the root issue itself, such as:

  • Relaxation
  • Helping to reduce blood pressure
  • Reduction in inflammation
  • and more
